Attention all Deadheads: Dead and Company have announced their 2017 tour dates. The tribute band–comprised of former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann along with John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti–will hit 15 cities across the U.S. on the 19-date tour.
Since their formation in mid-2015, Dead and Company has not only garnered critical success for their ability to pay homage to Jerry Garcia’s Grateful Dead, but have embarked on two consecutive tours.
Each show is set to feature two sets of classic tunes from the Grateful Dead’s impressive span, so dedicated Deadheads can expect to hear “Touch of Grey,” “Truckin’,” “Sugar Magnolia” and more.
For Grammy winner Mayer, involvement with Dead and Company raised questions over his own solo career. The 39-year-old singer-songwriter released his first single in over three years, “Love on the Weekend,” last month, though his plans of recording his seventh studio album have been derailed to tour with the classic rock band the past two years. He is expected to release his new album The Search For Everything sometime in 2017 and announced via Facebook that he will work his solo tour around Dead and Company’s.
Mayer, a guitar expert in his own right, has been praised for channeling original frontman Jerry Garcia in shows. Garcia was the face of the Grateful Dead from their formation in 1965 until his death 30 years later. Guitarist Weir and drummer Kreutzmann were among the original founding members of the band, while Hart joined as a drummer not long after in 1967.
