Straight No Chaser will have another round…of touring, that is. The all-male a cappella group has a jam-packed schedule ahead of them, which includes the 26-date Double Feature Tour running from July through September and the Speakeasy Tour, which extends from October through January.
The appropriately named Double Feature tour will team up the a cappella giants with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, resulting in a strangely wonderful musical marriage. The two groups have come to fame for their popular song covers, though each exudes very different styles.
Straight No Chaser, who formed in 1996 and has been a pioneering force in the emergence of a cappella in pop culture, rely on impressive vocal harmonies, song arrangements, and creative mashups to wow audiences. Their co-headlining act takes a different route by recreating today’s biggest pop hits as jazz, ragtime and swing standards, proving that the old-fashioned sound does not go out of style.
After a fun-filled summer tour (and the release of a new EP, Six Pack Vol. 3, out July 21), Straight No Chaser will command the stage at 40 cities across North America on the Speakeasy Tour. This time around, audiences can expect the group to belt out beloved covers from their four holiday albums as the fall season quickly turns into winter.
The group’s continued presence on the road ensures the longevity of a cappella as a genre, which has also been bolstered by the Pitch Perfect movie franchise and Grammy-winning group Pentatonix, which now faces an uncertain future due to the departure of bass vocalist Avi Kaplan at the conclusion of their current tour.
