Taylor Swift is slowly preparing for a return to the musical spotlight. The star announced her participation in two upcoming radio station-sponsored festivals in December, not long after the Nov. 10 release of her sixth studio album Reputation.
Swift will headline 99.7 Now!’s Poptopia show in San Jose on Dec. 2 and share the stage with pal and collaborator Ed Sheeran, The Chainsmokers, Niall Horan, Fifth Harmony, Dua Lipa, Khalid and Logic. She will then perform at Chicago’s B96 Jingle Bash Dec. 7, which also features Backstreet Boys and Sabrina Carpenter in addition to Logic, Khalid and Fifth Harmony.
Ahead of its release, Reputation is proving to be the most anticipated record of Swift’s career. The Grammy winner has taken fans and critics on a wild ride since her 2006 debut as a young, doe-eyed country sweetheart, a persona which lasted a few years before Swift transitioned into a full blown pop star, one who’s been dealt her share of media scrutiny over a number of rocky relationships, both romantic and professional.
After years of writing about personal experiences, mainly some not-so-subtle digs at some famous ex-boyfriends, and being involved in feuds with Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian among others, Swift appears to take control of her life and relationships with her new music.
She slyly promoted lead single “Look What You Made Me Do” by wiping her social media clean and using snake images, a figure she has become branded with in the past year following her ongoing beef with West and Kardashian. The song serves as Swift’s way of calling out her critics as well as a birth of “The New Taylor,” one who’s tougher and harder to break than before.
Since the song’s release, fans have speculated that the album will be a tell-all diary of Swift’s both personal and public struggles, adding plenty of buzz and enthusiasm around the record.
Swift is yet to perform her new music on any platform yet, and her December gigs mark her first headlining show since 2015. There is no word yet on her potential plans to tour in promotion of Reputation, but for now, fans can enjoy Taylor re-entering the spotlight on her own terms.
